Foam dressings are generally soft, tough, well-adapted, and non-adhesive to wounds. Their main function is to absorb exudate and maintain a moist healing environment. Foam dressings are made into different shapes and sizes to suit various anatomical sites and wound conditions, and are divided into two types: non-adhesive and adhesive. Dressings without adhesive edges must be fixed with tape or bandages, while foam dressings with adhesive edges can be adhered and fixed to the skin around the wound, but the surrounding skin must be kept intact.
Foam dressings are designed to absorb fluid (exudate) from some pressure sore wounds and maintain a moist environment.
